Filed under: Apps and Add-ons;Again, this blog is for the VMC (Vista Media Center) users who are thinking about it or just starting out. If you’re already a VMC power user then you’ve probably heard of almost everything I’m going to put on this blog…but ya never know, maybe you’ll find a nugget of knowledge you didn’t have before.
Today, I want to concentrate the first of many add-ons that help flesh out VMC and provide an added experience. I’ll only be covering apps that I use, so you’ll know, that while I’m not the most informed person in the world, I do have first hand experience with the things I write about.
First up is My Movies. This app is written by a very talented guy by the name of Brian Binnerup. Basically, the program allows you to maintain a movie collection by way of an SQL database. One of the best features of this program is that everything you need is included in the installer. Run once, set up your database in the Collection Manager, add titles, watch. It adds a row to your VMC start screen where you can dive in and pick the movie you want to view. I have around 250 titles saved to hard disk and this app is perfect for keeping them listed in almost any order I want, ready to play at any time.
The collection manager is pretty self explanatory. You can search for your movies via UPC, title and many other options. UPC is of course the easiest. Once you’ve placed your movies into the database, My Movies will then update your titles automatically.
Overall, My Movies makes it extremely easy to manage a sizable DVD or video collection. Easy installation and total integration make this a must have if you’re a movie fan.
You can find My Movies at www.mymovies.dk. There you’ll find the software as well as large community of users willing to help!
