    Why do we have to hate?

    Filed under: General VMC News;

    I came across an article this morning on how Microsoft is starting an ad campaign for Vista with comedian Jerry Seinfeld to hit back at Apple for their PC vs. Mac ads.  Ok, MS needs to advertise Vista and Seinfeld’s HP commercial isn’t too bad, so this could be a good match…

    But, Seinfeld being funny, or HP making nice commercials isn’t really the issue here.  What I’m wondering is why I keep getting Google alerts telling me that everyone on the planet (apparently) is rolling their PC back to XP.  Now, I’m not posting this because I like Seinfeld or because I’m a marketing expert who thinks MS is right or wrong.  I’m writing this post to help new users or people on the fence about Vista.  It’s simple:

    Windows Vista Will NOT ruin your life!!!!

    There.  I said it.  Apple’s ads are good and if you believe them, then by all means, go buy a Mac.  But if you hate Vista just because it’s cool to hate Vista right now then please let me explain.

    I now have 4 Vista machines running in my home.  2 desktops running Vista for Media Center, and 2 laptops for work.  THEY WORK JUST FINE…  My only complaint is on one of the desktops, but this is not Vista’s fault, it’s mine.  The PC wasn’t built to run Vista, it’s really not powerful enough to run Vista properly.  It’s only used as a media center in my children’s playroom though, so no big deal.  Other than that, every machine in my house works perfectly.

    Yes, it’s apparently very hip to hate Windows Vista right now.  The OS isn’t perfect, but this being a media center blog, I will say that it is a great improvement over XP when it comes to that aspect.  The UI is much nicer, and runs a lot smoother for me.  You only have to remember one thing about Vista, which MS themselves told people:  You have to have the hardware to run it.  If you want to use a 4 or 5 year old PC to run a media center, go out and buy SageTV or Beyond TV and I’m sure you’ll be happy.  If you have the hardware however, Vista will work wonderfully for you.  Just don’t complain if you choose to install something on a machine that doesn’t meet the required specs.

    Ok, that was my rant for today…have a nice week!
