Let your friends know what you’re watching
Filed under: General VMC News; For anyone who might be a Facebook user, I recently found an app listed there which will allow you to update your Facebook status automatically using Media Center.
The Windows Media Center Status Tool, once installed, will update your status on Facebook depending on what you’re doing inside of Media Center. For example, if you’re watching live or recorded TV, it will say “X is watching show Y”, for music it provides artist, album and track details and for pictures it simply states you’re viewing pictures.
While it might not be the most useful app every created for Media Center, it is pretty interesting. As a user myself, I don’t mind letting it update my status. For us, it doesn’t happen often as we only watch anything on our actual Media Center PC at night when falling asleep, but it’s still an interesting concept.
The application doesn’t work with extenders however (the reason mine is never up to date) and there is an option through editing the registry to make Media Center ask your permission before posting a status change. You may want to turn this on if you ever watch programming that you don’t want other to know about. ( We know you closet Spongebob watchers are out there…)
Enjoy!
